W-A-S-H-I-N-G-T-O-N Baby D.C.!

Not to be a Debbie Downer...but what, exactly, is everyone doing in D.C.? Sure, some of the many pilgrims I know have balls to attend, and all seem to have a few inches of floor somewhere, and I know the energy must be incredible, but...what are they doing? Just standing around? No one will be able to get anywhere near the Mall, surely?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be standing around a few hours south myself (work calls) and I'll be doing as much as possible tonight so as to head somewhere besides my house at noon...but I can't help wondering!

Ah, Sadie, they're all celebrating two things - a great new President coming in and the vanquishing of a murderous, lying, incompetent thug. Parties everywhere, all the restaurants and clubs have been open around the clock by virtue of a new law passed a few weeks ago just for the time span of the Inaugural. The Mall is filled with people going through all the Smithsonian museums, the city is throbbing with people who've never been here before, and the spirits are high. Such joy like I've never seen here. You'd have a good time if you were here because there are lots of young, beautiful folks filling every possible space, talking, planning, dancing, singing, making out, hooking up, and partying as if a long national nightmare has ended. You're not a Debbie Downer, but it sounds like you could use a really good wild party filled with nice, uncluttered people. I hope you find one.

Today, I was thinking about that Nader poster from the 2000 election -- the Bush/Gore "Obey" concoction. What recalled it was reading about the artist behind Obama's campaign poster, who also produces the whole line of "Obey" knick-knacks. (Though not that particular poster, I don't think) Thinking about that ironic echo of 2000, I share your skepticism and wonder how many of the people experiencing the amazing energy in DC are the same morons who couldn't distinguish between the two candidates eight years ago.
